IIASA Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) 2026 for Doctoral Students Worldwide (Funded)

Deadline: January 12, 2026

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) invites applications for the 2026 Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) — a prestigious research opportunity for doctoral students from around the world.

Each summer, from June to August, selected PhD students join IIASA’s interdisciplinary research teams in Laxenburg, Austria, to conduct advanced research aligned with the institute’s key focus areas such as climate change, energy systems, biodiversity, population, and sustainability.

The YSSP allows participants to work under the mentorship of leading scientists at IIASA, develop their own research within the context of global systems analysis, and contribute to high-impact scientific publications. The program is designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and data-driven problem-solving on complex global challenges.

Benefits
  • Fully funded participation, including travel support, accommodation, and a monthly stipend.
  • Access to IIASA’s world-class research facilities, data, and expert supervision.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with an international network of top researchers and policymakers.
  • Publication potential — many participants co-author papers that appear in major scientific journals.
  • Exposure to interdisciplinary systems thinking, bridging natural and social sciences.
  • A chance to present your research at the YSSP final colloquium attended by experts and IIASA staff.
