The University of Oxford Institute for Ethics in AI Accelerator Fellowship Programme 2026 is a competitive and fully funded opportunity for early- to mid-career professionals, researchers, and technologists interested in the ethical, social, and governance aspects of artificial intelligence. This fellowship provides a platform to explore innovative solutions, conduct research, and influence the ethical development and deployment of AI technologies.

Hosted by Oxford’s world-renowned Institute for Ethics in AI, the Accelerator Fellowship empowers participants to engage with interdisciplinary experts, collaborate on cutting-edge projects, and contribute to shaping responsible AI policies and frameworks. Fellows are immersed in an academic and professional environment that bridges ethics, technology, and policy.

Fellowships can be undertaken:

  1. Remotely, with the possibility of short visits
  2. Through a longer in-person stay in Oxford (up to 6 months at a time, provided immigration eligibility criteria for an appropriate UK visa are met)

Please note that these fellowships are not employed positions with the University.

Awards and Funding

Each award includes:

  • A monthly stipend of £2,000 to support accommodation, travel, food, and living expenses
  • On a case-by-case basis, the would consider support for project-related costs such as:
    • Workshops
    • Seminars
    • Public exhibitions or events

Applicants should include a clear project proposal in their application if they wish to be considered for this additional funding.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants are generally required to:

  • Be early- to mid-career researchers, technologists, or professionals in AI, computer science, ethics, law, or related fields
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical AI development and research
  • Have experience or interest in policy, governance, or social impact of technology
  • Exhibit excellent communication, analytical, and collaborative skills
  • Be available to participate fully in the fellowship programme at Oxford

Diverse candidates with interdisciplinary experience are encouraged to apply.

Step two: Please email the following three documents as a single PDF file not exceeding 10MB using the naming convention ‘Surname_Name_Month_Year_AFP application’ to aiethicsafp@philosophy.ox.ac.uk with the subject title ‘AFP Fellowship Application‘. 

Document one: a one-page project, statement outlining:

  • The focus of your work
  • Desired outcomes and specific outputs
  • How your project aligns with the programme’s goals
  • Potential for societal, policy, or business impact
  • Opportunities for longer-term collaboration
  • If applicable, include a project-proposal for any project related costs for events, workshops, exhibitions, seminars.

Document two: a motivation letter.

Document three: a two-page CV.
