The Amref Health Africa County Storytellers for Impact Storytelling initiative offers an exciting opportunity for young storytellers, journalists, and community communicators to amplify health and social development narratives across African counties.

This program empowers participants to produce compelling stories that highlight innovative solutions, local health challenges, community-led initiatives, and impactful interventions. By sharing authentic stories from the ground, storytellers help inform policy, inspire action, and raise awareness on key public health issues.

Participants will gain hands-on experience in professional storytelling, multimedia production, and advocacy, working directly with Amref Health Africa, one of the continent’s leading health organisations.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants are generally required to:

  • Be an African youth or a young professional with a passion for storytelling
  • Have demonstrated experience or interest in writing, journalism, or digital media
  • Be committed to addressing health and development issues in their community
  • Possess basic multimedia skills (photography, video, or audio)
  • Be able to commit time for training, content creation, and reporting
  • Show creativity, innovation, and ethical storytelling practices

Application Process and Documents Required

Applicants should submit:

  • A cover letter indicating county of residence
  • A portfolio of written work – success stories, case studies, research papers, and photography. Videos will be an added advantage.
  • A short CV (max three pages)
  • Two referees’ contacts
