The Ashinaga Scholarship Foundation supports orphans and children whose parents have disabilities in their studies through scholarships.
The scholarship is an integrated type of loan + benefit, and the loan portion is interest-free repayment within 20 years. It is possible to combine it with other scholarships.
There is also a system of a lump-sum payment for private high school admission (300,000 yen loan), a lump-sum payment for private university admission (400,000 yen loan), and a lump-sum payment for entering university (400,000 yen loan, for high school scholarship students).
In fiscal 2019, 4.8 billion yen in scholarships were awarded to a total of approximately 6,500 students: 3,500 high school students, 2,200 university students, 800 vocational school students, and 40 graduate students. Approximately 54.7 billion yen in scholarships was given to people.

Eligibility Criteria
Children from families where a parent has died due to illness, disaster (excluding traffic accidents on the road), suicide (suicide), etc., or a parent has a significant disability.
* Significant disabilities refer to cases where the following disability certifications have been received.
<Grade 1 to 5 as stipulated in the Law for the Welfare of Physically Disabled Persons, the National Pension Law, the Employees’ Pension Insurance Law Enforcement Order, the Law Concerning Mental Health and Welfare for the Mentally Disabled, and the Enforcement Regulations for the Workers’ Accident Compensation Insurance Law>
