The BKMC Scholarship Program 2024 is a joint initiative of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens (BKMC) and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (DA). The program is open to 20 young Africans who are interested in pursuing a master’s degree in one of the following fields:
- International Studies
- Environmental Technology and International Affairs
- Advanced International Studies
- International Legal Studies
- International and European Studies
The program aims to provide the students with academic excellence, intercultural competence, leadership skills and global citizenship values. The students will have the opportunity to:
- Study at one of the most prestigious and oldest diplomatic schools in Europe
- Learn from distinguished faculty members and guest speakers, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
- Participate in internships, field trips, workshops and networking events
- Join the BKMC alumni network and become part of a global community of change-makers
Benefits
The BKMC Scholarship Program 2024 is a fully-funded scholarship that covers the following expenses for the students:
- Tuition fees for the entire duration of the master’s program (two years)
- Monthly stipend for living expenses (€1,000 per month)
- Health insurance
- Travel costs to and from Austria (up to €1,000 per year)
- Visa fees
- Laptop and books
- Cultural and social activities

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the BKMC Scholarship Program 2024, you must:
- Be a citizen of an African country
- Be under 30 years old
- Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field of study
- Have a minimum of two years of work or volunteer experience in a field related to the chosen master’s program
- Have a high level of English proficiency, as the program will be conducted in English
- Have a strong motivation and commitment to become a global citizen and a leader for sustainable development
Application Procedure
To apply for the BKMC Scholarship Program 2024, you need to:
- Fill out the online application form on the BKMC website
- Upload your CV, academic transcripts, diploma, motivation letter, two letters of recommendation and a copy of your passport
- Write an essay of 800 words on one of the following topics:
- How can you contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in your country or region?
- What are the main challenges and opportunities for global citizenship in the 21st century?
- How can the BKMC Scholarship Program help you achieve your personal and professional goals?
- Submit your application before the deadline of March 31, 2024
