The European University Institute (EUI) School of Transnational Governance (STG) Policy Leader Fellowship 2026/2027 is a prestigious, fully funded program for early- and mid-career professionals passionate about driving policy change at national, regional, and global levels. Hosted in Florence, Italy, the fellowship brings together exceptional policy innovators, researchers, activists, public servants, and leaders working across governance, international development, climate, economics, human rights, technology, and related fields.

Fellows spend several months at the EUI engaging with experts, participating in the STG community, and advancing policy projects that address today’s most pressing challenges. This immersive environment provides space for reflection, collaboration, and professional development, supporting fellows to become impactful policy leaders with global influence.


Benefits

Residence

Fellows must reside in the Florence area for the duration of their fellowship so they can take an active part in the activities of the EUI/STG and the fellowship programme (with the possibility of short visits outside Florence and Italy). The fellowship cannot be carried out remotely/online.

Grant

The basic grant is € 2,500 per month.

Successful applicants who receive other grants or salaries must disclose this to the EUI. The amount of the Fellowship will be fixed at a lower rate (minimum €1,750 per month) depending on the amount of the additional income (upon production of relevant supporting documents).

If applicable, family allowances will be added to the basic grant (see below).

Family Allowances

A household allowance of up to € 310 per month is paid to a Fellow with a partner if the partner lives with him /her in Florence and on the condition that the partner’s income is less than € 2,000 per month. The sum of income and allowance cannot exceed € 2,000 per month (i.e., if the income exceeds € 1,700, the allowance will be paid only to top up to € 2,000).

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should typically meet the following requirements:

  • Be an early or mid-career professional with proven experience in public policy, civil society, governance, consulting, advocacy, research, or related fields
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of professional achievement
  • Show commitment to advancing meaningful policy change
  • Present a clear and feasible policy project idea to work on during the fellowship
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in an international environment

Professionals from all regions and sectors are encouraged to apply.

  • Statement of purpose outlining motivation and fellowship expectations
  • Policy project proposal explaining objectives and intended impact
