Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to Nigeria

The European Union (EU) Delegation to Nigeria is offering a funded traineeship opportunity for young graduates interested in international relations. This six-month program, set to commence by the end of May 2025, provides hands-on experience within the Green and Digital Economy Section of the EU Delegation in Nigeria.


Benefits

Selected trainees will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses during the six-month program. This immersive experience allows participants to:

  • Conduct research and analysis on key sustainable economic development issues in Nigeria.
  • Review trends and activities undertaken by other development partners.
  • Contribute to the programming, identification, and appraisal of programmes and projects in close cooperation with beneficiary institutions.

Please note that all costs related to travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Program Details

A traineeship of 6 months within the Green and Digital Economy Section of the EU Delegation in Nigeria, starting by end of May the latest.

The Green and Digital Economy Section of the EU Delegation is in charge of managing projects and programmes spanning the sectors of: agriculture, climate, renewable energy and energy efficiency, circular economy, innovation and digitalisation, youth employment, MSMEs and investment. 

Main tasks: 

  • Conduct research and analysis on key sustainable economic development issues in Nigeria
  • Review trends, as well as programmes and activities undertaken by other development partners
  • Contribute to the programming, identification and appraisal of programmes and projects in close cooperation with the beneficiary institutions
  • Draft reports on events and meetings
  • Contribute in the follow-up of the implementation of projects
  • Media monitoring of developments of relevance in Nigeria, in the public and private sector

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a young graduate with a university diploma (at least a Bachelor’s degree) in fields such as Agriculture, Climate, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Circular Economy, Innovation and Digitalisation, Youth Employment, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Investment, or related areas.
  • Have less than one year of professional experience.
  • Currently reside in Abuja, Nigeria, considering local health and security conditions.

Additional qualifications that are considered an asset include:

  • Excellent writing and research skills.
  • Commitment to completing tasks within set deadlines and eagerness to learn and contribute to the EU Delegation’s activities.
