For the 2023-24 academic year, SUNY Geneseo has increased funding to merit scholarships. New students who have been admitted to Geneseo will automatically be considered for all merit-based scholarships at the time they are admitted.
These tuition scholarships range from $5,000 USD – $9,000 USD per year and are awarded at the time of admission. Awards are based on outstanding academic achievements as evidenced by grades on transcripts (or mark sheets) and results on national examinations.
Academic scholarships are renewable for up to four years with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. International applicants admitted to SUNY Geneseo are automatically considered for an International Student Scholarship. Freshman (first-year) and transfer students are eligible for the International Student Scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for Geneseo State University of New York Merit scholarships, applicants are expected to meet the following conditions:
- Applicants must be international students
- Applicants must be new students
- Applicants must be ready to enrol in a full-time degree program
- Applicants must have an offer of admission to the university
- Applicants must have a high school certificate or equivalent
- Applicants must have proof of English Language proficiency
