Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Ghent University Doctoral Scholarships 2026, applicants must typically meet the following requirements:

  • Be a citizen of a developing country as defined by the scholarship’s guidelines.
  • Hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field with excellent academic standing.
  • Demonstrate strong research motivation and a feasible doctoral proposal aligned with Ghent University’s research priorities.

Application process and documents required

Application forms must be submitted (in English) electronically to BOFapplication@ugent.be

  • In addition to the application form, the Ghent University supervisor must also submit the following 2 documents:
    1. Advice on the candidate, stating the supervisor’s opinion on the capability of the candidate as a future researcher.
    2. Advice on the ethical and biosafety context of the proposed research project
