The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Center for Business Journalism Fellowship 2025 is a prestigious opportunity designed to support experienced business journalists who are working on in-depth, ambitious stories that provide fresh insights into critical issues affecting global economies, business, and finance. Managed by the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, the fellowship provides both financial and editorial support to help journalists complete significant investigative or enterprise projects.

The fellowship is open to business journalists globally, including freelancers, staff reporters, and editorial teams. Projects may focus on any area of business journalism, including economic inequality, climate and sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship, financial markets, labor, or international trade.

Eligibility Criteria
  • The McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism is open to anyone with at least five years professional experience in journalism. 
  • The program support work by freelance journalists, as well as by reporters and editors currently working at a news organization or a journalism non-profit. In the latter case, reporters and editors can apply directly in the name of their organization.

Application Process and Documents Required

Applicants must submit:

  1. A project proposal (no more than three pages) outlining the story idea, its significance, reporting plan, and estimated timeline.
  2. A budget proposal explaining how the grant funds will be used.
  3. A resume or CV highlighting relevant journalism experience.
  4. Three work samples showcasing prior business reporting.
  5. At least one letter of reference.
