The ITU GenAI for Good Challenge 2025 invites innovators, researchers, and changemakers worldwide to harness the potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) for social impact. Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), this challenge aims to support creative solutions that leverage AI to tackle real-world challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Participants are encouraged to design AI-driven projects that promote positive societal, environmental, and economic outcomes — from enhancing healthcare and education to driving sustainability, gender inclusion, and climate action. The competition offers a unique global platform for young innovators to collaborate with international experts, gain visibility, and contribute to building a responsible AI ecosystem for good.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the ITU GenAI for Good Challenge 2025, applicants must:

  • Be individuals or teams (students, startups, researchers, or professionals) passionate about AI innovation.
  • Be 18 years or older at the time of application.
  • Submit a project that uses Generative AI to address at least one UN Sustainable Development Goal.
  • Have a working prototype or concept demonstrating potential real-world impact.
  • Be open to collaboration and participation in mentoring sessions.

Focus Areas​

Lesotho – Agriculture Extension Chatbot: A mobile-friendly AI chatbot offering farmers and extension workers in Lesotho real-time agriculture advice, crop alerts, and market guidance—via voice, text, and basic phones.
