The Princeton in Africa Fellowships 2026/2027 offers talented young graduates from across Africa a unique chance to contribute to transformative development work while gaining valuable leadership and professional experience. The program places fellows with partner organizations across the African continent in sectors such as public health, education, renewable energy, international development, and social entrepreneurship.

Since its launch in 1999, Princeton in Africa (PiAf) has empowered young professionals to work with impactful organizations, promoting cross-cultural understanding while supporting Africa’s development goals. The fellowship is designed to equip graduates with the skills, networks, and knowledge to become future leaders in Africa and beyond.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the 2026-27 Princeton in Africa Fellowship, general applicants must:

  • Be young professionals or current undergraduates graduating by June 2026 at the time of application.*
  • Hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or a Ph.D. from a 4-year U.S.-accredited university.
  • Have full professional proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English as defined by the CEFR (Level C1 and above). Professional proficiency in French is preferred for some posts.
  • Be no older than 35 years of age for the duration of the fellowship year (born on or after September 1, 1991).
  • Hold a passport valid through the end of the fellowship year (August 2027).

*General applicants must not be enrolled in any graduate, doctoral, or equivalent advanced academic programs during their fellowship year.

To be eligible for the 2026-27 Princeton in Africa Fellowship, Nexus applicants must:

  • Be young professionals or current undergraduates graduating by June 2026 at the time of application.*
  • Hold a bachelor’s, master’s (or equivalent), or a Ph.D. from an African university.
  • Have full professional proficiency in speaking, reading and writing English as defined by the CEFR (Level C1 and above). Professional proficiency in French is preferred for some posts.
  • Be no older than 35 years of age for the duration of the fellowship year (born on or after September 1, 1991).
  • Hold a passport valid through the end of the fellowship year (August 2027).
  • Have citizenship in an African country and have current residency in an African country. Applicants with dual U.S. citizenship will not be considered.

*Nexus applicants must not be enrolled in any graduate, doctoral, or equivalent advanced academic programs during their fellowship year.


Application Process and Documents Required

The application process requires candidates to:

  1. Complete the online application form via the Princeton in Africa portal.
  2. Submit a detailed CV/resume.
  3. Provide a statement of purpose outlining motivations and career goals.
  4. Submit academic transcripts.
  5. Provide two recommendation letters (academic or professional).
  6. Shortlisted applicants may be invited for an interview.
