The Africa Center/Afreximbank Global Africa Gateway Summer Internship Program 2026 is a competitive international internship designed to expose talented students and young professionals to Africa–global economic engagement, trade, investment, and policy innovation. The program is jointly supported by The Africa Centre and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), two institutions at the forefront of advancing Africa’s global economic integration.

This summer internship offers participants a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on projects related to African trade, finance, diplomacy, entrepreneurship, and development policy, while engaging with global experts, policymakers, and institutions. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the Africa Centre/Afreximbank Global Africa Gateway Internship Program must generally meet the following criteria:

  • Be an undergraduate or postgraduate student, or a recent graduate
  • Have academic or professional interest in Africa-related issues, such as trade, economics, finance, public policy, international relations, or development
  • Demonstrate strong research, communication, and analytical skills
  • Be legally eligible to participate in the program location
  • Show leadership potential and commitment to Africa’s global engagement
  • Be proficient in English (knowledge of French or other languages is an advantage)

Applicants from African countries and the African diaspora are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • 1000-word personal statement outlining their specific interests, ambitions, and why working on the continent is of interest.
