The Nature Awards for Mentoring in Science 2024 is a prestigious accolade that celebrates exceptional mentors in West Africa who have significantly contributed to nurturing early career researchers. This year, the spotlight is on West Africa, as defined by the UN, to honor those who have dedicated themselves to guiding the next generation of scientific leaders.
The Nature awards are divided into two categories: one for lifetime achievement in mentoring, open to those who received their PhD or Medical Doctorate before 1995, and another for mid-career achievement, for those awarded their PhD or Medical Doctorate in or after 1995. This initiative underscores the importance of mentorship in the scientific community and its role in career development.
Benefits
Each award category comes with a cash prize of US$10,000, which will be shared if there are joint winners. This significant financial incentive is designed to acknowledge the invaluable contribution mentors make to science and to support the continuation of their mentorship efforts.
