The Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) Africa Fellowship Programme 2025 is a prestigious opportunity for emerging leaders with a passion for transforming education in Africa. TaRL Africa, a joint initiative by Pratham and J-PAL, aims to bridge the gap in foundational literacy and numeracy skills among children across the continent. This one-year fellowship provides participants with intensive training, hands-on experience, and mentorship to create sustainable solutions for education inequality. Fellows will work closely with governments, NGOs, and schools to enhance the quality of education through TaRL’s innovative teaching methods.

Eligibility Criteria

The TaRL Africa Fellowship seeks individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Emerging Leaders: Candidates should have a commitment to social change and improving education, with 1-3 years of experience in the education or social impact sectors preferred.
  • Educational Background: Applicants should hold at least a bachelor’s degree, though a background in education, development, or social sciences is advantageous.
  • Adaptability and Problem-Solving: The program is ideal for those who are adaptable, culturally aware, and passionate about addressing challenges in underserved communities.
  • Willingness to Relocate: Fellows should be open to relocating within Africa for the duration of the fellowship.

Application Process and Documents Required

To apply, send the following to prog.partnerships@teachingattherightlevel.org with the subject: “TaRL Africa Fellowship programme 2.0” by Nov 24, 2024

  1. Application letter indicating:
    – What your TaRL journey has been
    – Why do you want to contribute to the TaRL movement across Africa
  2. The confirmation that your current organisation/employer would allow you to dedicate 15% (at least 50 working days) of your time over 18 months to the fellowship program.
  3. Your CV.
  4. Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to your TaRL work. 

After submission, shortlisted applicants will go through an interview process, where they will have the chance to discuss their experience and vision for educational reform.
