Applications are now open for the University of Toronto (U of T) Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme 2026/2027, a fully funded initiative that offers talented and socially committed young Africans the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in Canada.
Hosted by one of the world’s top universities, this program is designed to nurture the next generation of transformative African leaders who will drive inclusive and sustainable development across the continent. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Programme at U of T provides access to world-class academic resources, leadership training, and an environment that fosters innovation and global collaboration.
The program targets individuals with exceptional academic merit, leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to giving back to their communities. Scholars will study in diverse fields aligned with Africa’s development priorities, gaining skills that enable them to create meaningful impact upon their return home.
Mastercard Foundation Scholars are provided with a variety of mentoring and transition assistance programs. This includes an extended orientation prior to, and, upon arrival to become familiar with the University’s academic requirements and practices and will also introduce students to various social, co-curricular and professional opportunities.
Advisors and administrators within the departments, faculties, and Centre for International Experience, regularly interact with Mastercard Foundation Scholars and help students navigate through university life. Student mentors also provide peer support. These resources will help with transitioning to U of T and to support academic and personal success
